If We’re Not Ghosts, Then What Are We? (2025) Emmy-winning artist and creative director Mike Racanelli will present his new solo exhibition, “If We’re Not Ghosts, Then What Are We?,” for one night only on Saturday, October 18, 2025. The event will be held at Exhibit A Gallery at 1056 S Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, CA from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The highly anticipated show features a dynamic and eclectic collection of Racanelli’s latest work, spanning abstract paintings, conceptual work, and design. The exhibition offers a direct look into the artist’s multidisciplinary mind, exploring the ideas that linger long after the creative process is complete. The show’s title is borrowed from one of Racanelli’s key paintings and reflects the theme of impermanence and the lack of identity in the post-pandemic world.

Known for a style that is both aggressive and emotionally resonant, Racanelli’s new body of work uses abstraction and design to grapple with the exhibition’s core themes. The collection includes large-scale abstract pieces alongside meticulously crafted functional art, such as a lamp built from black walnut, promising a multi-faceted experience that defies easy categorization.

“This show is a direct look inside my brain—the chaotic, the quiet, the playful, and the obsessive, the deepest questions that linger like old ghosts that haven’t crossed over,” says Racanelli.

“I work across a lot of different mediums, from painting and design to film and even code, but it all comes from the same source. For one night, I wanted to put all of those conversations in one room and invite people in.”

This one-night-only event offers a rare opportunity to see the full scope of Racanelli’s work in a single, immersive environment.

Alive & Dwell (2022) is a collection of works by artist Mike Racanelli that chronicles nearly a decade of self-discovery, struggle, and growth, with art becoming a therapeutic way to deal with some exceptionally dark periods.

Alive began as a graphic print of a hand-drawn skull — a juxtaposition of a universal symbol of death with the word “ALIVE” emblazoned across the forehead — and evolved into an experiment in branding. Based on a short diary written by his father but discovered after his death, it plays on the idea that we should live every day as if it’s our last and tell the ones we love that you do.

Dwell developed as a series of mixed media on canvas drawing from love, loss, and grief, from 2021 through 2022. The works take on various characteristics of color, shape, and method, some more geometric, some very chaotic, and unfolded as life does, never as one plans. The titles aim to translate the works’ poetic nature in a language only defined on canvas. Striving to uncover his authentic self for the first time since childhood, these works embody the most essential human need: to connect.
